Now viewing: Illustration My career started in comic-book illustration, doing pencils. Later, I began using Adobe Illustrator, and I learned the fine art of High Resolution Digital Graphics. I was hooked.
Soon after learning Illustrator, I continued right into Photoshop. Then, I found Lightwave and After Effects, which opened me up to the world of animation. Since that time, I have learned Maya, Max, XSI and a host of other digital art and animation software packages... all of which I continue to use today to create a wide variety of artwork destined for film, print, games and the web.
These days, the only projects I do detailed pencil drawings for are storyboards, but concept sketching is still the first step in everything I create on the computer. I think it's essential to start organically before going digital. I find it really helps with the approval process, as well. From the concept sketch, I either scan it to Illustrator, or right into Maya, on it's journey through multiple software packages on its way to the final render.
I try to work at print resolution on all my artwork, which is a skill I don't often see in young artists these days. Hi-rez rules, low-rez drools!
